Lindt Chocolate Cafés can be found in a number of locations – we visited the one on Collins Street. We had an “Our Deal” voucher which cost $16 and included two chocolate milkshakes or hot chocolates, and five Lindt Délice (this is what they call their macarons). Lindt also recently had a voucher on Groupon for a dessert platter, so we recommend that you look online for any deals that are available before you visit a Lindt Café.
We both chose to have milkshakes rather than hot chocolates. We were able to choose the flavours of the macarons, and we were also given a choice between eating in or getting the milkshakes and macarons to take-away. The waiter who took our orders was quite friendly.
The chocolate milkshake was quite chocolatey and sweet but it wasn’t overly sweet or heavy, so we had no problem finishing our drinks. It was a tasty milkshake, but then again it’s difficult to get a chocolate milkshake wrong, especially at a chocolate café. It was definitely worth the price of the voucher ($8 per person for a milkshake and 2.5 macarons each), but the original cost is a bit pricey at $8.50 for only the milkshake.
The macarons had a good texture and the lemon macaron had a good strong flavour, but in the rest of the macarons the flavours were nothing special. In the salted caramel macaron, one half was more salty than the other half! There are other stores in Melbourne that have better macarons, so it’s hard to justify paying the (above average) price of $3 per macaron for something that isn’t The Best.
Verdict: A good chocolate café but it is quite pricey (especially the macarons) if you don’t use a voucher.
Location: 271 Collins Street. Their website is here.
Hm, I think there’s a lot of things that can be done wrong about a ‘chocolate’ milk shake as most such designated shakes don’t contain any chocolate but cheap syrup or at best cocoa. That said, I can’t vouch for those shakes as I don’t know if they’re the same as the absolutely delicious, actual chocolate containing ones they churn out in Japan.

Thanks for your comment. You’re very right that the chocolate milkshakes made from syrup/powder don’t always taste nice; perhaps we should have clarified that the Lindt milkshakes were much better than something you’d get at a cheap cafe. When we wrote the article we were thinking more about the stores that specialise in chocolate, and how most of them have milkshakes of a similar standard to Lindt.
