Cheap pies followed by Messina “soup” cans at The Royal Croquet Club (late post)

Dinkum Pies

Dinkum Pies is a bakery near the Block Arcade which sells both pies and pastries. A few weeks ago we decided to make use of a Scoopon (which is currently still available!) to get some cheap Dinkum pies for lunch. Regular pies are normally $5.50, but with this voucher you can get a regular pie and coffee for $4. Instead, the two of us opted to share the “Family Pack” voucher: $13 for 2 regular pies, 2 party pies, 2 mini sausage rolls and 2 hot drinks.

Ani ~ The steak and onion pie had a really tasty meat filling due to the onion. The pastry of the pie was decent, if a little thick in some places. Continue reading

Cake Bake and Sweets Show ’14

Today we visited the Cake Bake and Sweet Show! It’s here in Melbourne’s Convention and Exhibition Centre for only three days (October 3-5) so if you haven’t been yet, tomorrow is your last chance! The show has clearly been popular this year; we arrived at 10:15 a.m. and there was already a huge queue to get in, going all the way to the other end of the building. The queue was still long when we left the show… 2 hours later.

Much queue.

Once inside the exhibition hall, we were surrounded by food stalls from all the usual suspects (LuxBite, Adriano Zumbo, N2 Gelato, Gânache etc.) as well as many other stored we hadn’t heard of before. Stalls were selling everything from ice cream to fudge, lollies and macarons; everything sweet. There were beautiful cakes, macaron towers, a chocolate cake sofa and a display of giant chocolate flowers!!
